The Jaguar Athletic Banquet, established in 2007, is held annually at the culmination of the school year. At this event, awards are given to student/athletes and coaches, recognizing outstanding athletic performances and academic excellence. This page honors the recipients of four major awards: Athlete of the Year, Xavier Romero Leadership Award, Edgar Chuta Values Award, and Academic Team of The Year.
Athlete of the the Year Award
The Athlete of the Year is awarded to the student/athlete(s) who excelled at their sport(s) during the school year, through their outstanding athletic performance, leadership, and sportsmanship. The distinguished recipient(s) of The Athlete of the Year is a student/athlete who may have guided their team through the CIF Playoffs, or to a CIF Championship, or who have competed at the highest level in more than one sport during the school year.

Xavier Romero Leadership Award
Established in 2023, The Xavier Romero Leadership Award recognizes a Senior student, exemplifying extraordinary leadership in athletics. Demonstrating outstanding dedication and commitment, Xavier Romero was instrumental in reviving the Jaguar football program for the final season in 2011-2012. A few years after graduation from Central, he was diagnosed with a very rare form of liver cancer that has no cure. Most people afflicted with it succumb to the cancer within 2 years. Xavier fought his cancer with everything he had, visiting multiple doctors and cancer clinics, changing his diet, and undergoing multiple surgeries and procedures. Ultimately, after almost 5 years, Xavier lost his courageous battle with cancer on December 5, 2019.

Edgar Chuta Values Award
The Edgar Chuta Values Award is in memory of Edgar Chuta, a beloved and admired student who passed away in March, 2012. Edgar was a student/athlete who exemplified our Values through the sport of Football. The recipient(s) of this prestigious award is a Senior student/athlete, voted on by coaches as an individual emulating the late Edgar Chuta by living our Five Values through sport.
